The size of the crowd attending the Washington Capitals' championship parade was undeniably huge.
But as we know well, how huge is something that matters -- at least to some people.
With its Twitter tongue firmly in cheek, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority did a nice job of matching President Trump's penchant for hyperbole as fans flocked to the city's downtown area Tuesday.
"We know a lot of you are interested in ridership numbers, and we'll have those for you in a bit," the agency tweeted.
"For now, we can say: 'This is the largest audience to ever witness a @Capitals victory parade. PERIOD.' "
As the numbers rolled in during the day, it became clear hockey may be one of the few things on which people from all sides of the political spectrum can agree.
Even before Tuesday afternoon rush hour peaked, the number of Metro riders was on the verge of surpassing the 570,557 trips taken on Inauguration Day 2016.
While it's hard to draw any real parallels between the two events, one thing is readily apparent: Red has been the dominant color for both winners.
