Tuesday’s High School Roundup: Bonny Eagle Tops Thornton

SCARBOROUGH — Troy Bogdahn struck out five and scattered seven hits as Bonny Eagle earned a 3-1 win over previously undefeated Scarborough in an SMAA baseball game Saturday morning.

Bonny Eagle (4-3) broke a 1-1 tie in the third inning when Dana McKay led off with a double and eventually scored on Drake Laughlin’s groundout.

Kolby Lambert added an RBI single in the sixth.

Morgan Pratt singled home Scarborough’s only run, in the bottom of the first.

Scarborough fell to 5-1. Mitchell Wedge took the loss despite allowing just one earned run and four hits.

PORTLAND 7, SANFORD 1: Tommy Joyce hit a pinch-hit two-run single to spark a four-run sixth inning as the Bulldogs (7-0) pulled away from the Spartans (0-7) at Portland.

Charles Barnard, Dan Marzilli and Ben Griffin combined to throw a four-hitter, with Barnard and Marzilli pitching three innings apiece.

MASSABESIC 5, DEERING 2: Brandon Dyer hit a three-run double in the second inning, and the Mustangs (3-4) defeated the Rams (4-3) at Hadlock Field.

Massabesic produced 13 hits, including a double and two singles by Adam DeAngelis.

James Sinclair hit a solo home run to center field in the sixth inning for Deering.

THORNTON ACADEMY 16, NOBLE 4: Luke Chessie’s two-run double highlighted a seven-run second inning as the Golden Trojans (5-0) defeated the Knights (0-8) in Saco.

All seven runs in the second inning came with two outs.

Evan Balzano gave up two earned runs over four innings to pick up the victory.

OCEANSIDE 3, GARDINER 1: Jacob Bartlett singled home the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh inning and Michael Norton Jr. added a sacrifice fly as the Mariners (6-1) edged the Tigers (4-3) in Gardiner.

Logan Sheridan, the winning pitcher, allowed five hits and one walk while striking out three.

Oceanside got its first run on a passed ball in the first inning. Gardiner tied it on Hunter Chasse’s sacrifice fly in the fourth.

POLAND 3, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 2: Jake Wiseman allowed just four hits and no earned runs as the Knights edged the Raiders in Poland.

Hunter Day had a single and a double for Fryeburg. Losing pitcher Matt Fuller allowed only five hits.


FRYEBURG ACADEMY 11, POLAND 3: Mackenzie Buzzell had four hits to pace an 18-hit attack for the Raiders (5-3) against the Knights (2-6) at Poland.

After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, Fryeburg took the lead with three runs in the third on back-to-back RBI singles by Julia Quinn and Lexi L’Heureux-Carland.

Brooke Juneau added a two-run single during a five-run fifth inning.

Fryeburg pitcher Nicole Bennett scattered seven hits while striking out seven and walking one.

Erin Brewer scored for Poland on an RBI single by Morgan Brousseau in the bottom of the first.

Brewer and Sarah Walton each had two hits for the Knights.

SACOPEE VALLEY 6, GREELY 3: Brynn Hick hit a two-run double during a three-run third inning and McKenzie Fox added a two-run single during a three-run sixth to lead the Hawks (3-4) past the Rangers (4-2) in Hiram.

McKenzie Cormier also singled home a run and pitched a complete game.

Kayley Cimino and Sarah Felkel had two hits apiece for Greely.

FREEPORT SWEEPS OLD ORCHARD BEACH: Morgan Karnes doubled home the go-ahead run in the seventh inning of Game 1, and Callie Toothaker drove in three runs in the second game as the Falcons (3-5) recorded a pair of wins over the Seagulls (0-6) in Old Orchard Beach, 8-5 and 19-7.

Karnes broke a 4-4 tie with her double in the opener, then scored on a single by Bailey Karnes. Megan Cormier also singled home a run.

In Game 2, the Falcons scored eight runs in the second inning. Toothaker ended the game with a two-run triple in the fifth.

SKOWHEGAN 2, MT. ARARAT 0: The Indians (3-4) scored in the first and third innings and held on for a win over the Eagles (4-3) in Topsham.

In the first, Skowhegan got back-to-back singles from Eliza Bedard and Sydney Ames and an RBI double from Wylie Bedard.

Sydney Reed led off the third with a double and was singled home by Julia Steeves.

Kate Guerin doubled and Kelsey Scannevin singled for Mt. Ararat’s only hits.

NOKOMIS 5, SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 0: Audrey Davis had three singles and Libby Dunivan pitched a five-hitter as the Knights (5-2) blanked the Phoenix (3-4) in Newport.

Maci Leali had a double for Nokomis.


WAYNFLETE 10, FREEPORT 8: Izzy Burdick recorded two goals and three assists as the Flyers (3-2) defeated the Falcons (2-2) in Freeport.

Nina Moore also scored twice for Waynflete.

Taylor Rinaldi had three goals and an assist for Freeport.

MT. ARARAT 9, EDWARD LITTLE 5: Emily Welch scored three goals to lead the Eagles (1-3) over the Red Eddies (0-4) in Topsham.

Shannon Harty, Erin Tome and Isabella Blessington each added a pair of goals.

Grace McBride scored twice for the Red Eddies.

YARMOUTH 13, NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 3: Eliza Lunt scored five goals and set up another, and Cory Langenbach chipped in with three goals and an assist as the visiting Clippers (3-1) downed the Panthers (2-3).

Yarmouth also got two goals and an assist from Lilly Watson, and a goal and two assists from Ella Antolini.

Zelda Clegg, Callie Sturgeon and Emily Taylor scored for NYA.

LAKE REGION 15, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 7: Lindsey Keenan scored five goals to lead the Lakers (4-0) over the Raiders (1-5) in Naples.

Lauren Jacobs contributed three goals, and Melissa Bonenfant and Rachel Shanks each scored twice for Lake Region.

ERSKINE ACADEMY 7, LINCOLN ACADEMY 5: Katelyn Hustus scored three goals for Erskine (3-1) in a win at Newcastle.

Hayley Hinds, Audrey Jordan, Christina Hodgkins and Ella Johnson contributed a goal apiece, and Malorie Weaver made 12 saves.

Lauren Gildersleeve and Brinley Harrison scored two goals each for Lincoln Academy (1-3). McKenzie Beaudoin got the other goal and Emily Huber made six saves.
