State OKs First Marijuana Facility Licenses

Michigan has approved its first operator licenses for medical marijuana facilities.

At its Thursday morning board of directors’ meeting in Lansing, the Bureau of Medical Marihuana Regulation voted to authorize licensure for:

• VB Chesaning of Chesaning, four Class C grower licenses

• Capitol Transport of Lansing, secure transporter

• Cannarbor, Inc. of Ann Arbor, provisioning center

• Arbor Kitchen of Ann Arbor, processor

Those approved for licenses can expect to wait up to several weeks before they are issued.

One applicant considered for approval, Medicinal Solutions Compassionate Care Corp. of Adrian, was denied licensure as well as prequalification, proposed in tandem. According to board member Donald Bailey, issues are suggested with the applicant’s “integrity” and “moral character” regarding non-disclosure of arrests, doctors currently doing examinations on-site which is prohibited by law, and caregiver profits.

The board also voted to table a decision on applicant Stateline Wellness Center LLC of Morenci, which is seeking a license as a provisioning center. The board is seeking more information on the applicant’s financial issues and criminal background.

Also on Thursday, the board approved prequalification status for 16 proposed facilities and denied five. To date, 40 applicants have been prequalified.
