If you've been on the Internet today, you've probably heard rumors about Telltale Games shutting its doors. I hate to say it, but those rumors are indeed true. For the gossipers among you, there seems to be a new rumor floating around, as sources are reportedly telling USgamer that Clementine may not see the end of her adventure in The Walking Dead: The Final Season.
Telltale CEO Pete Hawley confirmed the studio's impending closure on Twitter a few hours ago following several hours' worth of speculation and reports from various sources. Hawley's statement affirmed that a skeleton crew would be remaining on staff to fulfill the company's obligations to the board and its partners. Netflix issued a statement earlier stating the recently announced Minecraft: Story Mode stream would not be impacted by Telltale's closure, but they're looking for a new partner for a Stranger Things video game.
Anonymous sources have reportedly informed USgamer that the skeleton crew Hawley referenced in his statement are working on the Minecraft: Story Mode project for Netflix and that The Walking Dead team was laid off today ahead of the closure announcement. If this is true, we can expect Clementine's adventure to forever remain in limbo, as episodes 3 and 4 would definitely not be completed. We don't know what the layoffs mean for episode 2, however, as the second leg of Clem's final adventure was previously scheduled to release on Tuesday. We've reached out to Telltale Games to see if we can learn more about USgamer's report, though it's unlikely we'll hear back before Monday at the earliest.
