Reptile Adventures Amazes Kids

Children had a chance to learn more about turtles today at the moosewood nature center in marquette.

Around 40 people showed up for family friendly "Reptile Adventures," featuring turtles. Kids were able to interact with several types of turtles, and were able to feel their shells.

Organizers say some reptile populations are declining and hope events like this can generate interest.

"I basically just want them to have an appreciation for their native reptiles that live with," Reptile Adventures organizer Nicole Shane said. "Kids are growing up here in the up and the up is a beautiful place and you can find a lot of different reptiles.

Upcoming events at the Moosewood include snakes next month and frogs in August.

The nature center asks for a $10 per family donation to attend.

This fall they plan to feature other wildlife including birds, deer and even bears.
