Orlando Sentinel Conversations Episode 28:

Orlando Sentinel TV writer Hal Boedeker talks with Maitland author James Ponti about winning big at "murder prom" with Edgar Award, giving back to the Central Florida community, what’s next for character Florian Bates and other books on the horizon.

James won the prestigious Edgar Award for top juvenile work for ‘Vanished! A Framed! Novel.’

James was nominated last year for the Edgar for “Framed!” Both books follow Florian, a boy genius/sleuth who works for the FBI.

In 'Vanished!,' 12-year-old Florian visits the White House twice, befriends the president and tracks a missing child-prodigy cellist.

James’s website celebrates Florian’s similarity to another famous detective: “For Sherlock it’s elementary. For Florian it’s middle school.”

The Edgar Awards, named after Edgar Allan Poe, are presented by the Mystery Writers of America.
