New numbers released by the Barrie and District Association of Realtors (BDAR) suggest sales and the average price for real estate in Barrie have started to trend upwards.
According to new June 2018 statistics, the price of homes in Barrie increased 2.8 per cent year over year, while the number of sales rose 25.4 per cent. According to BDAR, there were 252 recorded sales in June 2018.
This is in stark contrast to the last two months, which saw a decrease in both the number of sales, and the average price of homes sold.Story continues below
In May 2018, the number of transactions declined 37.1 per cent year over year, while the average price of homes declined 2.2 per cent.

Similarly, in April, the number of transactions declined 42.5 per cent, and the average price of homes declined 15.2 per cent compared with April 2017.
Overall, numbers in Simcoe County, including Barrie, increased by 14.7 per cent year over year for the month of June. The new numbers also show a 0.9 per cent increase in listing prices from May 2018. According to BDAR, in June 461 residential property sales were recorded in Simcoe County.
“June is the first month that year-over-year comparisons do not compare directly to the overheated market in early 2017, and we can really see that the market is improving and returning to the normal rate of increases we are used to,” Geoff Halford, president of BDAR, said in a statement.
