There were not one but two baseball title holders in the Silver City.
The 14 and 15-year old Babe Ruth All Star teams recently captured District 6 championships and will head to state tournament competition, beginning this coming Saturday.
The 14s will play in Quincy at Adams Field — 1 Merrymount Parkway — on July 20 at 7 p.m., July 21 at 8 p.m. and July 22 at 4 p.m. The 15s head to the state Tournament in Saugus — World Series Park, 25 Dow St. — on July 21 at 2:30 p.m., July 22 at 11:45 a.m., and July 23 at 5:30 p.m.
The 15s won two close games over Maplewood for the District 6 championship.
In Game 1, Taunton won by a score of 4-3. Game 2 was much closer and Taunton prevailed 8-7, thanks to an early three-run, inside-the-park home run by Ryan Mello in the first inning. The locals played a complete game — both offensively and defensively.
