E3 2018: Fortnite On Nintendo Switch Has Been Downloaded 2 Million Times In Its First Day

Though some leaks indicated it would be coming to the platform,  Fortnite surprisingly launched for the Nintendo Switch immediately following Nintendo's E3 2018 Direct. And in less than a day, a huge number of players have already downloaded the popular battle royale game.

Speaking to IGN at E3 2018, Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime confirmed to IGN that, in its first day of availability, Fortnite has been downloaded on Switch more than two million times.

"At this point, we've already had more than two million downloads on Fortnite," Fils-Aime said. "So that speaks to an engaged audience on Nintendo Switch as well as the core proposition of, I can now take it with me and play anywhere, anytime, with anyone, it's really resonated."

The launch of Fortnite on Switch also came with some surprising news. The first, positive note being that players can directly use voice chat in the game via the Switch's headphone jack, instead of the Nintendo Switch mobile app. And though cross-play is supported on Switch with Xbox One, PC, Mac, and mobile versions, Fortnite Epic Games accounts linked to a PS4 are not compatible with the Switch version, nor is cross-play supported between the platforms.

Before it's release on Switch, Epic's gigantic hit previously launched on PC, Xbox One, PS4, and most recently on iOS devices. Yesterday, Epic announced Fortnite's player base has already grown to 125 million. For more on Fortnite, be sure to read our review of the Battle Royale hit and check out our Fortnite wiki guide.
