PM Narendra Modi pays tributes to Karunanidhi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday paid homage to the late DMK President M. Karunanidhi after laying a wreath on the body that was lying in state at Rajaji Hall in Chennai.
Arriving here by a special flight, Modi reached the government estate and paid his respects to the late former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
After going around the casket in which the body was wrapped in the tri-color, the Prime Minister patted M.K. Stalin, Karunanidhi's son and political heir, and his daughter Kanimozhi, MP, and comforted them with words of solace.
Stalin thanks people of Tamil Nadu
An emotional MK Stalin, son of late DMK patriarch Karunanidhi and DMK working president, shows his gratitude to people for their respect for the Kalaignar. The DMK cadres and people belonging to all ages cried their eyes out in recognition of their leader's service to the poor and oppressed with pioneering welfare schemes. Thousands of police personnel deployed near Rajaji Hall had a difficult time keeping the crowds under check.

Rajinikanth pays homage to Karunanidhi
Former All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) leader T. T. V. Dhinakaran and Actor-turned-politician Rajinikanth also paid their homage in Chennai. Prior to this, the mortal remains of Karunanidhi was kept at his Gopalapuram residence and was later taken to his daughter Kanimozhi's residence in CIT Colony for the homage.
Condolences flow in for the aggrieved family
Soon after Karunanidhi's demise, many political leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress president Rahul Gandhi and chief ministers of various states expressed their deep grief and extended their condolences to the bereaved family.
Karunanidhi accorded state funeral
Wrapped in tricolor, Karunanidhi mortal remains have been kept at the hall for the public to pay homage. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam visited Rajaji Hall to pay their respect to the DMK chief. The 94-year-old political leader passed away on August 7 after prolonged illness. He will be accorded with the state funeral later in the day.

The DMK organizing secretary RS Bharathi late on Tuesday evening approached the Madras High Court. After a protracted hearing of both sides in its verdict at 11am on Wednesday, the court allowed Karunanidhi to be buried at Marina beach.
Once he learned of the favorable verdict from the court, an emotional moved Stalin broke down at Rajaji Hall, where the body of the late leader was kept for the public to pay homage.

The Madras HC held a midnight hearing at the residence of Acting Chief Justice HG Ramesh. After hearing the counsel for DMK, the judges HG Ramesh and SS Sundar adjourned the hearing. It was resumed at 8 am on Wednesday.
The government cited cases pending at the HC against burials and cremations in Marina beach. The government was willing to offer two acres land near Gandhi Mandapam at Adyar.
A few petitions filed by activist “Traffic” Ramaswamy and a couple of others against the construction of Jayalalithaa memorial at Marina beach, in violation of Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) notification, has been pending in the High Court.However, a petitioner advocate Duraisamy late on Tuesday evening came forward to withdrew the petitions filed by him.
