Bryan LaHair Is Still An All Star, Just Not In MLB

What should LaHair do this offseason to help make his case in 2013?

"I think for his sake he needs to go play winter ball again and get those at-bats he's missed out on and be ready for spring training," manager

Dale Sveum said. "Just like he was this year."

But even if LaHair does play winter ball and is ready for spring, it will be difficult for him to get playing time on the Cubs, assuming he's still in the organization. Sveum did not give any false hope to LaHair.

"It kind of goes unsaid, if Rizzo is healthy, playing time is going to be tough to find," Sveum said.

Castro watch: Cubs shortstop

Starlin Castro leads the National League with 25 errors, but Sveum is satisfied with his overall defense.

"There are things he still needs to get better at, with angles and stuff like that," Sveum said. "But the accuracy of his throws I think has obviously improved. The work around the bag, turning the double plays…"

Sveum said Castro's on-field awareness is still something to improve upon. Castro made an error recently in Pittsburgh on a wild throw to first with slow-running catcher

Rod Barajas running to first.

"The awareness is probably the biggest thing he's got to get better at," Sveum said. "Awareness of everything around him and how every situation is different."
